Union Plasterer: What Is It and How Do I Become One?
If you’re interested in a career in construction, you may have heard of the term “union plasterer.” But what is a union plasterer? Simply put, union plasterers are those who have chosen to join a labor union. At OPCMIA Local 132 of Southern Ohio, our mission is to support you in your career. Learn more below, then join today.
Requirements
If you’re interested in becoming a union plasterer, you’ll need to meet some basic requirements. First, you must be at least 18 years old. Next, you’ll need to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Finally, you often need to complete an apprenticeship program.
Why Union?
There are many benefits to joining a union, but here are just a few:
- Unions provide training and education opportunities so you can learn new skills and keep up with the latest industry trends.
- Unions offer job security by working to ensure fair wages and working conditions for all members.
- Unions give you a voice on the job site so you can have a say in your work environment.
Benefits
In most cases, members of a trade union make more money in their careers than non-members in the same profession who are not covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Your union representatives and contractor reps from multi-employers negotiate on your behalf to ensure that you receive a good wage, appropriate employment terms, workplace rights, and safe working conditions. The union also offers health insurance, pension plans, education and training, and much more.
The Solidarity of Labor Unions
In addition to the many benefits that come with being a union member, you also have the satisfaction of knowing that you are part of a larger community of workers who are standing together to improve the lives of all workers. When you join a union, you are joining a movement that has a long history of advocating for the rights of workers.
